We started with a manequin that we Gessoed to cover the very [un]attactive pink spotty swimsuit that was painted on it.

We ran the metal leaves through Jennies Vagabond with an embossing folder, and coloured them with alcohol inks.

The shrink plastic was die cut with the leaves die and heated in a UTEE melting pot to shrink and stamped into while still hot and soft.

The Modeling Film was die cut with the leaaves, coloured with alcohol inks, then heated with a heat tool. OH BOY !! I can't believe it has been so long since I last posted. I am a very bad Blogger.

I won't bore you with all the details but needless to say, life and work has got in the way over the past few [read FOUR] months.

My Craft room is now up and running. Will post a few photos when I tidy it up a bit.

I have done a few workshops at Pickleberry Crafts [who sadly are closing their bricks and mortar shop at the end of July] with the lovely Jennie Boxall from The Artistic Stamper.

I am just coming to the end of an online workshop, Evil Elixir, with the inspiring Mr Andy Skinner and have already started another one with him, Timeworn Techniques. I have also signed up for yet another one due to start in September, Excavation.

Two very different styles of Art, but equally enjoyable. So, if anyone likes getting, inky, painty and generally grungy then get over to Jennies Blog at theartisticstamper.blogspot.com and andyskinnerorg.blogspot.com.

Over the next few days I will be posting some photos of things that i have created during these workshops.

Speak soon and take care
Well, the job on the night club is finished for now. We've been there since September, so I think I need a little break from, crackle glazing walls, distressing, ageing with wax, everything that doesn't move, and dying lace fabric with paint in a bath to make it look old and grungy.

I had a play day today. I went to a workshop by Jennie Boxall at Pickleberry Papercrafts. Picked up Sparkles on the way and spent a good few hours with four other ladies, getting Inky and Grubby.

We had a great time decorating two mini canvases with Die Cuts, Distress Inks, Tissue Paper and all things Tim Holtz. We also got to play with his new Distress Pens and they definately do what it says on the tin.

Problems with OH hospital appointments, being stuck in work from Dawn till Dusk, and I can't find my external Hard Drive with all my project photo's on. So, no photo for this post. Sorry folks.

I am looking forward to a Workshop at Pickleberry Crafts in Faversham with the talented Jenni Boxall from The Artistic Stamper. The workshop is for an Altered Book. I've been wanted to do this for a while, but never had the courage to start cutting up a book. My love affair with books is well known in my family. I have far too many, but cannot bring myself to part with any of them. I really, really need a library room of my own. [Wishful thinking].

Keeping this short and sweet. WHEN I find my hard drive I will make another post.

Oooh yea, BTW, I had a scrap layout published in this months Scrapbook Magazine. Very excited me

Take care and speak soon

This started life as a white bird house bought from a large supermarket chain [in a sale]. I made it into a clock for a Christmas Present for my sons Girlfriend..

The main body was crackled and stamped, then a craquelure finish applied. The cracks were highlighted with Raw Umber Oil Paint.

Cogs are die cuts from Tim Holtx Die and the given a worn and weathered look with embossing powder, stamps and ink.

The green leaves are a Sissix die.

Bird and branch are from Maya Road [I think] and the flowers from the bridal selection of Hobby Craft.

Clock hands were coloured with alcohol inks because they were too gold and shiney.

Roof tiles were made using a Tim Holtz on the edge die.

The little face was made with UTEE in a silicone mold. Painted with Black Acrylic and highlighted with silver and gold gilt cream. I found the tiny pair of glasses in a box of bits. They took ages to secure on the face, but I think it was worth it.

I had some trouble with the clock mechanism. The one I had was too short to pass through the wall of the bird house. A Crafty friend sent me one with a longer spindle, but my clock hands wouldn't fit it. So in the end I managed to track one down with a long spindle and new hands, but it was a tad too long, so I tied some Jute string round it to give the illusion that it is shorter.

I really enjoyed altering this. I have already been asked by a friend to make something similiar.

Thats it for now. I already have some bits sorted to upload soon.

Take Care
2011 is drawing to an end, hope it has been good to you all and 2012 is even better.

I don't normally make New Year Resolutions, but I have made a little promise to myself that I WILL keep up with this blogging malarky. So here goes [I know it is not New Year yet but I thought I would start a bit early].

The Compass image was from the interenet. I outlined it with gold pen and clear embossed it. When it was set and cold I bent it to make the cracks and then rubbed ink into the cracks to highlight. Mounted on some cardboard butterly wings which have been coloured with metallic pen.

The 'Tickets' were made with a Sissix stamp die cut. I chose the words to use and then translated them into Portuguese [the language spoken in Brazil], printed them out, die cut them then coloured them with distress inks. The camping and hiking symbols were a download from Scrapbook Max. The photo of the Statue of Christ, is one that Kelsey took.

They were away for a total of 31 days and all returned safe and sound, a lot fitter and a little thinner, full of stories of their adventures.

Well, fingers crossed that this will be the start of regular posts, see you soon

Take care and keep safe
I started working big time again, and it sure has taken me a while to get back into the swing of things. I'm working on a nightclub in my home town. A complete 'do over'. I shall post some pictures soon, promise.

I started work on a Family History Album many moons ago and wanted something to go on the last page of my Grandfathers. I never met him, as he died in a Japanese POW camp in 1943, my dad can't remember him as he was only two when his dad went to war and unfortunately never returned.

Anyway, doing a bit of Blog mooching today I came across a post by Jenny Boxall from The Artistic Stamper [sorry, I don't know how to link to a post] and she gave my mojo a push. As is it 11.11.11, it seemed so right. This is what I made.
I made the poppy using Tim Holtz tattered flowers die [as did Jenny]. The book plate is also a Tim Holtz die. The Remember wording was done on a Dymo label gun and the papers are bits from my stash. The little pocket watch I found amongst a box of bits and pieces, sorry I don't know where it came from. But it jumped out to be used, because my Grandfathers pocket watch is the only thing that we have of his. Safely kept with my dad.

Well I promise I will try and keep up with this Blog malarky. I still have to show you the other layouts in my daughters 21st Album.

I hope that those who have family members who serve in our forces are reunited safe and sound very soon.

Take care and I promise I will be back soon

BUT.........

The good news is that my roof is almost finished along with the converted loft space which will be [when finished] MY DOMAIN MWAHAHAHAHA !!! [sorry, couldn't resist].

I have tried to upload some photos, but after 5 minutes of 'uploading' the photo has still yet to appear. So I will try and add them again tomorrow.

But, a quick question........What do you have on the floor of your craft space? Vinyl, wood, carpet, laminate?

I think I need some outside help, OH says carpet because it will keep any noise down because of the bedrooms underneath. What does he think I am going to do up there, band practice? But, Carpet is a pain in the bum to clean if stuff gets spilt and to get glitter etc., out of.

I think a vinyl of some description because it is easier to keep clean and reasonably comfortable to stand on for longish periods [I am a standing Crafter]

I don't like laminate floors from experience.

Any input would be most helpful.

Will try and upload the photos tomorrow

Take Care

I put up this sign on the scaffolding as a bit of a laugh before everything went pear shaped.

Tempting fate I think.

Well, it has been AGES since my last post. I hadn't forgotten, I have just been sooooooo busy I haven't known whether I have been on my bum or my elbow!!

A quick round up.............................

Trying to sort out Kelseys 21st Birthday Album, Organising her Birthday Bash and have building works done.

We have desperately needed to have our house re-roofed for about the last 5 years. Basically it was slowly caving in on itself. We thought, while we are having the roof done, we would have the loft boarded [properly] and roof windows put in.

Finally, the scaffolding went up on Friday 3rd July, beautiful sunny day. The work was going to start on the Monday. Saturday 4th July, another beautiful sunny day. Sunday 5th July, another beautiful sunny day. Sunday night, about 10pm, the heavens opened and it didn't really stop for three weeks.

So what with one thing and another things have been a tad hectic to say the least.

I spent Friday and Saturday hacking out about one inch of Bitumen out of our wonderful concrete gutters. I WILL sort out the leak somehow.

I have been trying to get some things back on target, hence the very funky sunday outfit.

<img border="0" height="240" i$="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkeefyQqjge0gFI1k76Dyl_HHvs6egraFZok8fXOjepm_zCQUdfYIw_kMIBcYo6WRGEJaezpFL7LiiVYHtpXvaJ6i8HZL3HmDzlruXXWnZQTjIwvs3FOhEZj5jLsSzJ38fcZO6unmF0_38/s320/DSCF3408.JPG" width="320" />

Well at least the roof is insulated and vapour barriered !! Just got to put up the plasterboard now as well as re-lining the gutters [note to self - must phone the roofing suppliers tomorrow morning] Don't I have a wonderful, exciting life?

Anyway, I finished Kelseys album. I just need to 'borrow' it back to take some photos.

That's it for now. I am going to sit down and eat my much needed dinner and relax for the evening. Tomorrow the fun begins again.

Take Care all

Lesleymhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02006343816238028021noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2745710332493279693.post-41201068547243360272011-05-22T14:54:00.001+01:002011-05-22T14:58:43.404+01:00Here comes Summer !!
Grey sky, blowing a gale, spots of rain and the sun trying desperately to peek through. Good old British weather. I have already rescued a sheet from next doors garden this morning after it took off like a parachute from the washing line.

Can someone please explain to my other half and offspring that wearing flimsy t-shirts is not an excuse for putting the heating on when it turns a bit chilly!! I refuse to put the heating on, afterall, thats what jumpers were made for wasn't it?

Am I the only person who doesn't pack away their winter wardrobe in preparation for sunnier days? My woolley jumpers and thick socks stay on their shelf and or in their drawer all year round, ready for days like this.

Anyway, enough of all that. I have been busy making some more layouts for DD's 21st Birthday Album.

LETS DANCE

Kelsey and her best friend decided that they would like to do Ballroom Dancing. So after numerous lessons in Various dances they took their first exam.

Their tutor normally partnered all the girls in front of the examiners. Little problem, that Kelsey towered above her tutor. So her husband was roped in to do the honours and partner Kelsey for the exam. Even at 5'10" he was still only a tad taller than Kelsey, who had reached 5'9" at the age of 11.

Well another bright and sunny day here. Kelsey has finally moved into her new flat and started her new job. Fingers crossed that she enjoys both.

I've been busy making another LO for her 21st Album.

In her last year at school she had the opportunity to go on a backpacking expedition to Brazil with her school and World Challenge. She had to raise £3000 to cover flights, travel, insurance, food, accomodation, equipment, etc.,

Her fund raising included, Quiz Nights, an Indulgence Evening, Boot Fairs, Odd Jobs etc., Her main fundraiser was a sponsored Wing Walk !! It took a lot of organising but she did it in the end. The club that helped her was the 'Tiger Club', their logo is a flying tiger. So we got an orange boiler suit, made stripes with masking tape and spray painted black stripes. It looked pretty good.

There were so many photos taken that day, it was hard to choose which ones to include on the LO. In the end I made a double LO with tons of photos.

I chose a selection of photos that detailed what happened before during and after the flight. I then made a little flip up album to attached to the LO.

Materials used on first page

All the papers used were from On a Whimsey from Fancy Pants Designs

Backing Paper - Rainbow

Spotty Paper - Happy

Stripey Paper - Twirl

White velum used for Banner and mounted on Foam Squares to make it float.

Letters - Die cut with Sissex Ida Lous Flower Pot

It is VERY warm here today, too warm for me, but then can't have everything can we?

Well, my baby girl is going to be the grand old age of 21 in June. She has a new job and a new place to live from the end of next week. So I guess I will be spending this weekend painting and decorating her new bedroom.

I have been slowly making her a scrapbook album. It's slowly getting there and will be finished for her birthday [I hope]. Sooooooooo many photos to choose from though.

HELLO BABY !!

Very sunny here in Kent, but a VERY chilly wind. But at least the sun brightens our day doesnt it?

Kelsey [my daughter] is moving out soon to start her new job so I made this for her. I got the idea from a talented lovely lady at nicksartystuff.blogspot.com. THANKS NICKS !!

I added a few extras that mean something to Kelsey and us.
Bees wax, a melting pot, paper, lace, stamps, coffee, cakes and choccies. What more could a girl ask for?

Met up with the lovely Sparkles from the DoCrafts forum and the fun teacher Jenni Boxall.

The project was supposed to be an accordian booklet of techniques, but mine kept sticking together when I folded it, so now it is a wall hanging.

Some of the wax techniques we learnt were:

1] Waxing over stamped images

2] Paper flowers and lace

3] Stamping into melted poured wax

4] Paper Napkins

5] Heat embossing into wax

6] Decoupage with wax

7] Applying perfect pearls onto warm wax

8] Stamping into brushed melted wax

I just couldn't get the hang of number 3 . My stamping into melted poured wax ended up looking like a blob of melted cheese, not nice as I don't like cheese.

So, when I got home I scraped that bit off, remelted the wax and dunked a big blue flower into it, sprinkled the wet waxy flower with fine glitter, a quick brush of blue and gold perfect pearls. I like it a lot better.

Hope it's the same over the UK.

Did I mention that I like books? Well I do, a lot. I have just found out how much. Sometime this year we have to have our house re-roofed [is that actually a real word?], anyway, the loft space needs clearing. I have started to do it gradually. It's going to be a mission with a purpose though, because when it's done, the loft space will be converted and I will have my very own space.

It's amazing how much stuff gets shoved in the loft over 30 years of marriage.

Empty boxes, gone. Old childrens toys, sorted and gone [well kept some to be honest]. Old childrens clothes, sorted and gone. Then we get to the books. Oh dear, I never realised how many books I had. I couldn't pack the boxes and bring them down the ladder, they were too heavy. So, I had to get them down a pile at a time and then pack them. DS2 did help for a while, but his attention span is about the same as a goldfish.

So, now the boxes of books are in the shed [which I had to clear out before I could get my books in]. Twenty four boxes and crates with an average of 30 books in each. I have approximately 720 books !!. Now, these are just hardback books, no novels etc., all non fiction, history, reference, pictures etc.,

This is my pile

I really think that when the roof and loft is sorted, I need to have fit some shelves and have my own library.Lesleymhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02006343816238028021noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2745710332493279693.post-53460554880966738612011-04-03T17:33:00.000+01:002011-04-03T17:33:30.325+01:00Happy Mothers Day Ladies !!I hope you have all a lovely day and been treated like Princesses.

It's been very quiet here at home. OH has gone off to a Motor Bike Boot Sale [I didn't know Motor Bikes had boots, but then what do I know]. DD came back from Hastings this afternoon and has now gone off to work to get all the unsold Mothers Day Cards off the shelves and reload with Easter Cards. Just had a conversation with DS1 [who is at Uni in Wales] and he's feeling pretty glum. Struggling with the academic side of Uni. Unfortunately he takes after me, learns better with hands on and not text books. DS2 is glued to his computer games. So, all in all a very quiet day in the Matty household. Even the cats have disappeared for the day.

I toodled off to Mums this morning with her Mummys day flowers and her prezzie for her birthday, which is tomorrow. I made her a mini album, with baby photos, from when I was a baby with my Great Grandmother through to mum and dad being first time Grandparents etc., Each photo has a hidden tag behind it with info such as who, what where and when on it. I also put a condensed family tree inside the front cover and a couple of poems dotted on a couple of spare pages. Hope she likes it.

I used Basic Greys June Bug papers. Made the little lace flowers and punched all the little paper flowers. The roses came from Hobbycraft.

Going to try and post a video slide show of it, so fingers crossed.
Who was dreading filling in the 2011 Census form

Just sat here and filled it in. Got very confused whether to put DS1 onto it or not as he is away at University during term time. But all sorted now thank god. Thanks Lynn and Mark.

Have been talking to my dad today in Yorkshire, [we are researching our family tree/history together], he tracked down the school records of the infants school that he used to attend in 1944/45. It turns out that his father [who died in 1943 in a Japanese POW camp] and his Grandfather attended the same school as my dad. His mum went to the same school as well.

Well, this is my first post and hopefully not the last. I will try and post a picture next tim, of the album I am working on for mums birthday.Lesleymhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02006343816238028021noreply@blogger.com4
